Welcome to Bekah's Blog!
Updates about Dean from Bekah and Taydon
February 20, 2008
From Taydon:
Well, for those of you who don't know yet I turned three on Sunday. We had a party for my family on Saturday! It was lots of fun. I got some really cool stuff!
Well, dad has been gone almost three weeks. Mom and I miss him lots. He hasn't been really hot the last week or so. His horse has been sore and mom worries about that.
We might get to go to Austin with him! I don't know when that is but mom says soon! I think dad should be home maybe Monday for a few days. I can't wait. Mom and I have been taking care of the horses, they are getting really fat. Dad needs to get home to ride them! Mom keeps saying dad might come home with a tan as he has been where it is very warm.
I got a new shirt that I can take and go bulldoggen in with my dad so I am ready to go! Dad says someday I will get to go but mom says different! I like to be home but being with dad would be okay too!
I had a party at school yesterday and mom and I made treats for all the kids in my class. It was fun and I got to wear a crown all day! It was cool.
Well, I best get going now but we will be better at keeping you up to date on us and our doings!
Thanks for your prayers!
Taydon
January 17, 2008
We didn’t know what God had in store for us, but it has been an amazing year. Coming off a very successful year we came home from Vegas as happy as we could be. But, no time to celebrate, a few weeks rest and it was time to hit the road again. None of us were to ready, but life goes on. Dean hit the road and won a little here and there. He made the short round at several places but never got really HOT.
Dean was in the top 25 all the spring and early summer. God had big plans for us and I was not prepared! Dean called me mid morning on July 2 nd to tell me he was flying to Dallas to see Dr. Freeman. He knew he had done something to his shoulder. He couldn’t even pick up his belt, all his muscle was gone. Really wanting to go to Calgary he prayed Dr. Freeman could fix him up really quick! He called me after his appointment with the news his year was over! He had torn his peck muscle and surgery was required with a very long recovery was in store.
Taydon and I picked Dean up in Denver July 4 th to spend our first Independence day together…… Not the way we wanted but none the less, together! We grabbed his stuff out of the truck and wished the guys luck. That was much harder for me then I ever expected! They are an amazing group of guys and have become family.
Dean was upbeat and kept saying, “This is just part of the sport!” Dean and I flew down to Dallas that next week and for the first time Taydon spent the week with out Dean or I. He stayed with my sister. I am not sure it never fazed him. He had a ball!
It has been a long road and Dean is very determined and works so hard. He has taken this all in stride and we have loved every minute of him being home with us! We aren’t sure how we will handle January, but God has given us the strength this far so how can we give up on Him now?
Dean went to therapy three times a week and also worked out the YMCA everyday. He has had his eyes on one goal this whole time and has never let down from trying to achieve that. He is now entered in Ft Worth and Denver. We will get to travel to Denver with him. But we will have to adjust first because he will be in Ft Worth mid January! He is up in Denver the 26 at 3pm and 8pm for any of you thinking of going! Keeping checking for updates, Dean will be updating from the road!
Thursday October 4
Dean is doing really really well. He has full range of motion now. He still can't lift anything, if he picks Taydon up he uses only his left arm. He works out morning and night and knows it feels better the more times he stretches it. Taydon has seen him do the exercises so much now he will do them too. It makes me laugh, but kinda sad at the same time.
Taydon and I have been riding lots. He is getting better and will trot just a few seconds now. I am trying to get him to stand up so he won't bounce so much, but Dean gets on me and says that it will all come with time. We have made strides just getting him on the horse now.
Dean took a horse to the vet last week and the whole deal has been more then we thought. The horse is in a little stall and Taydon helps Dean clean it out everyday. He also thinks anytime he goes in the barn he should get grain for the horses. They would be very fat if we would let him.
We have enjoyed Dean being home so much. I don't know what we will do come January! He likes to see the day to day things that we do at home but is starting to get the itch to just run one steer. I hope that once he gets to ride again that feeling will be less knowing things are improving. He has taken this all in stride and been so good about everything. It was so hard for me at first, all the unknowns but boy God has blessed us so much and for all of this I am thankful.
Thursday September 5
Well, life has been different for us but we have still managed to stay busy. We are having a blast with Dean being home! I don't know what we will do when January comes and Dean leaves us again! So here is the update and we will be better at keeping things updated now that Dean can start therapy!
We were in Dallas yesterday for another surgery. Dr Freeman said things looked really good and was able to do just what he wanted. We can put the sling in the closet and he is a free man, with some restrictions! He can't move his right arm to much and still can't lift anything. So for another six weeks I am still the only one who can change Taydon's diaper but we are seeing the light now and he owes me big.
Dean has stayed busy doing a few interviews here and there and has also done a few appearances. On our way to Dallas we went to Kansas City (way out of the way) and he stopped at an Alzheimers home and made an appearance! Dean loves to talk about the sport and what it has done for him! The older people loved Taydon as he was dressed just like his dad! My little sister lives down there so we were able to see her for a few days too! Once I get home I will put some pictures up!
We are on our way home from Dallas and heading to Minneapolis Minnesota to see Dean uncle and Aunt. They have a hog roast every year and we have never been able to attend. We are meeting his grandparents in Mullen and then heading north. God gave us this great traveler and I think we are going to burn him out. We have a DVD player in the car and he loves that so that makes him happy!
Taydon still likes to talk about Jonny and feed him but he could care less to ride. Dean had gotten a horse after Christmas that he was hoping would make a doggen horse but with him out of action I have taken over and he is becoming a great barrel horse! So the fight will be on in six weeks when he can ride again.
Dean turned 28 on August 31. I had a surprise party for him. That was hard to do. When he came in the room I don't know who was more scared, he or Taydon. We had a great time and his biggest supporters through this were there. It was lots of fun! On Sunday we celebrated out 7th anniversary. Wow what a great time. I never would have guessed we would be here 7 years ago! God has some plan for us!!!!
Well, it is late and I need to get Taydon in the tub so we can leave in good time in the morning for another day in the car!
Please keep us in your prayers and I will let you know when we are home!!!
God Bless!
The Gorsuch crew!
Wednesday August 8
GREAT NEWS! Dean went to Dallas to see the Dr Monday and the Dr said things look GREAT! He only has to wear his sling when he sleeps. He has to be very careful with it still but things look good. He has to go back on the fourth to have it scoped, then he can start rehap and get to rolling. He was so excited about it.
Because he can't do much we have been sticking very close to home, we have made several frequent trips to the park but that is just about it! We did get Taydon and new horse on Saturday. He still wants to ride Gege, but we are in hopes we can make the move to Johny and he can ride by himself with one of us leading him. We wanted something safe so he can get his balance and hold on to the reins, just do more for himself. So now that Dean can do more I hope he can get things ready and when Taydon and I come home from work he can have our horses saddled and he and I can ride. I think we are looking at a few months before Dean can ride.
Please keep us in your prayers!
Talk to you soon!

Thursday July 26
Dean is doing really well. He still can't do much but sit in the chair, I think we are going to have to buy a new chair this one might get worn out! He had to sing autographs on Saturday in Cheyenne so we spent the whole day there. It was fun and he got to see lots of people. We didn't go to the rodeo. We drove to Ft. Collins, no rooms to be had in Cheyenne, had dinner and then stayed at the Hampton Inn there. It was fun! We relaxed and then got up and made a quick trip to Toys R Us. It was fun.
Dean drove to Denver on Wednesday to pick up a buddy who was coming home for a wedding. Don't worry we got him a blue tooth and he hasn't had any pain pills so he was safe! I will keep you up to date! Thanks for your prayers!

Tuesday July 17
Well, for those of you who don't know Dean got hurt on the second of July. He tore his pec muscle from the bone and in the process tore the bicep muscle. He flew from Denver to Dallas to see Dr. Freeman just to confirm what happened. It was such! So he and I flew back to Dallas on the following Tuesday for surgery on Wednesday. Dr. Freeman felt that he fixed everything to almost perfection! Dean is in a sling for six weeks. He has been watching lots and lots of TV. ( we would take any good recomendations for good movies if someone had one.) He goes back down on the fifth to see the Dr and will have it scoped in eight to twelve weeks and then gets to start rehab. Things will go very very slow and he has to be patient. Dr. Freeman thinks he will be back and ready to roll by mid january.
So for now he is just at home hanging out. Taydon and I are loving him being home and will enjoy him more when he can do something. I will try to keep this updated as much as I can so please stay tuned for more info! We just ask for your prayers and want to thank all of you who have sent cards and make phone calls.
Talk to you soon!

Tuesday June 19
Hello again! Sorry we have been on the run the last week.We got to go to North Platte with Dad, it was so much fun! He did really good in the jack pot. It rained and rained and rained. We had a ball! My cousins came over and we played and colored and it was fun!!! Dad won second in the jack pot. In the match he got to match another nebraska guy. Dad beat him but it was close! It was fun, and a nice horor to remember those guys. He didn't fair so well at the Bufflo Bill Rodeo. He slipped an inside horn on his first one and then didn't even get to get down on his second one. It was a nice quick break for him to be home. Rodney and his family were here so I got to play with his boys. It was great.
The guys are off to Reno and ready to hit the "cowboy christmas" run. So they will be going lots and lots of miles this round so please keep them in your prayers.
They are up in Greeley the morning of the 27th and then the night of the third.
talk to you soon!

Wednesday, June 16
Dean won second in the jack pot and won the match!! He missed him this morning and then we will go back because he didn't get traded to this morning so he is up @ 8pm Thursday.
Friday June 8Well, I can't wait for the weekend! My dad is coming home and I can't wait! Then I get to go bulldogging with him! Life will be good. Mom and I have some work to do to get ready for the guys to come home. I hope we can get things done. I need to nap some because the change in my new school has been hard. I only get one nap! So I will write more after I have seen daddy
Have a great weekend!
Taydon
Thursday June 7Dad has been gone for awhile.....mom has been so busy she hasn't had time to write.
We are both very sorry! Dad still has been a little cold.
His is on the trail hard now so we hope things will get better. He surprised mom and I late Sunday night and was here for just a little while. He left Tuesday night after I went to bed. We are going to get to go to North Platte next week with him. That should be fun. Dad was in Garden City Wednesday and Thursday, no good. Long on his first one and broke out on his second. They are going to Texas and then working their way back up here to be home this weekend.
I have changed to a new "school" I am still not sure about it. Mom and Dad keep telling me I will have fun but, I am not sure. I just tell mom that I want to be a bulldogger with my dad and Miller (one of dads really good friends and mine too). I will try to get Mom to write more Friday before the weekend comes and tell you more about what is going on!
Talk to you soon!

Tuesday May 22
Well, l mom began to put cloths on the couch yesterday so I guess that mean dad must be getting ready to head out on the road again.
I got to go to the zoo with my cousin and grandma yesterday. It was so fun! We watched the tigers and monkeys. Mom calls me a monkey so I think they are cool. I think it is really fun to hang out with my cousin, he is a little older then I am but we have fun. They all think we will get into trouble together.
Dad and papa stayed home and put up gates. They look really nice. We let the horses out to run free and eat everything down. They loved the yard the best. Mom said she didn't think this was going to work. Gege kept trying to dig a hole in the yard. Dad and I watched them out the window all night. It was fun to see them playing around.
Dad said that Rodney and his family were going to come stay with us before they go to North Platte and mom said she and I were going to see dad in North Platte too. I can't wait!
Mom still has to pictures, she told me she would get them posted soon! She was sorry!!
Monday May 14, Wow I don't get the whole wedding thing but I had a blast this weekend. My aunt Michelle got married and it was great. I got to wear this fancy outfit that matched my dads (dad was the man of honor, I even had shinny shoes too. Nothing like cowboy boots that is for sure! I walked down with the rings just like they told me to. I stood up with my dad for a little bit but got confused with what they were saying so I ran back to my mom. I got to ride in a limo like the one we got in Vegas. It was cool!
Then the party began. I danced and danced and danced! It was great!!! I am not sure who all I dance with but it was fun. Grandma Connie danced with me lots but then I just wanted to be on my own so I danced from person to person some holding me some just beside me. It was great! We called it a night about 10 but I think the party went on without us. It was fun!
Back to work and all that goes with that! Dad is going back out soon. I don't get to go. Mom said we could go to North Platte with dad the middle of June. Then I think he will head out west. Here we go again. Dad did move up to 23rd. Movin' on up! He really isn't to worried. Lots of rodeos left. He has a new horse that he is going to take to some of the close rodeos and to a jackpot in North Platte. It is a memorial for Dru Melvins Dad who died just before the finals last year. The winner of the jackpot will match dad in a three hearder, I think I am not sure how that works. The winner gets this traveling buckle, I don't really know what that is because I know dad won't let mom or I wear his buckle so I don't know who would trade off buckle each year! I guess I will learn more from the guys.
Talk to you soon.
May 7:
Mom got home this weekend! We had big plans to get lots of fencing done, but the weather wasn't really that great. But, boy will God answer prayer, it rained and rained! It has been more then crazy trying to get things done. My aunt Michelle is getting married this weekend and I guess I carry the rings?! Dad is in the wedding too so I guess I just follow his lead! We both get to wear tuxes and I guess I get some shinny shoes rather then my boots! Maybe we can post some pictures of the big day!
May 2:
Well, Dad showed them he won second today!! But, because he didn't do good on his first one he won't make the short round. That is okay, mom always says to get a little everywhere you go and things will be good! Today is Moms "happy day" so we called her and sang to her. She said she really misses us. She has been busy in meetings so she really hasn't gotten to see lots of the sights!
A guy needs a ride home so we are going to leave today and head for home and at least get him home. Dad said we might stop and spend the night instead of driving all night. I don't know!
May 1:
Dad was up today. He got a bad flag and the judge made him get his steer back up and throw him again. Lots of people in the stands were upset, they thought things looked okay. But they don't get paid to be the judge, dad told me that it's just rodeo and you better love it or things like this would drive you crazy. I don't know what all this means and I was too busy playing in the dirt. Dad and I got a hotel room and Jason came and stayed with us. He is lots of fun to play with. Lots of playing to do so I will write later!
April 30:
Mom left today and that means that Dad and I will leave this afternoon. I think it is like an 8 hour trip to Guyman. Dad packed me lots of movies to watch! We are off!
Sunday April 29:
Mom is leaving to go to some meetings so that means I get to go with Dad. I can't wait! I am going to get to go with him to some rodeo. I have heard it is to some town in OK. Mom said that some of my buddies will be there, Ronnie, Jason, and Rodney. I can't wait!
April 25:
Sorry I haven't kept in touch much. I had been so busy keeping Dad busy. He and I worked on the fence the whole time he was home. When I would get tired I would just get in the pick up and go to sleep.
Dad left early Monday morning. He went to Corpus Cristi TX. He said it is very beautiful there. The arena is just off the ocean. Dad went Tuesday and then got traded again to go that afternoon too! He won fourth in the first round and was sitting really good in the second round and was winning the average. So things went really good.
He then surprised me and picked me up at the sitters on Thursday. It was great! I was sleeping and he woke me up. I came home and got to ride Gege. When mom finally got home fro work I rode with her too. We went a little faster then I wanted because the horn kept hitting me in the tummy.
Dad was going to help the guy he gets hay from today move cows. He didn't like he would be gone long so I went to play with my buddies Luke and Eli.
I will try to keep in touch more, just so you know what we are up to. I get to go hang out with dad and the boys next week in Guymon. I can' t wait. I haven't seen Ronnie since we were in Vegas!
April 16:
Dad and I hung out all day today. It was so much fun. I helped him set some new posts. I got to ride Gege by myself and then with dad. Then he tied a rope to my wagon and took me for a ride behind Gege. It was so much fun!! Not sure what he has planned for tomorrow but I am sure we will have fun
April 15:
Dad made it back home Sunday. It was a surprise to all of us, mom thought he might be home middle of the week. So I have big plans for he and I to hang out and have some fun.
Broke the barrier at San Francisco in the short round to win the rodeo. So I guess if you don't run at it then you aren't trying hard enough.
April 13:
Dean and his crew traveled all night back to California, a truck and trailer full of bulldoggers. I think lots of pitch was played on the trip. While Dean traveled he and Taydon talked and made plans for him to go with Dean while I attend a conference in DC. Taydon asked him if he could fly. Dean told him maybe he could go to some other place with him and they could fly. Big plans for my boys I guess! Dean should be home next week so we are looking forward to that.
April 9:
Happy Easter to everyone. Mom and I went to see my cousins Joce and Gabe in Elwood. We had lots of fun. It seems like a long trip but we got enough playing in to make the trip worth while. They have an Easter egg hunt and we did that. Joce did really good. I was just happy to get a little candy. Dad had a really good friend die last week. The service is Wednesday and he can't get back for it. He died in his trailer sleeping. Dad was really sad. We have prayed for him and his family that was left without him lots. He had a boy just about my age. Please keep them in your prayers too.
Dad won last hole in San Francisco. He was happy, in the average good he said. They traveled all night to get to another rodeo. Mom doesn't sleep well when they travel all night.
Ronnie is getting married. He will tie the knot in February I think.
Talk to you all soon, keep praying for dads friend!
April 6:
Dad left today, I hate it! I cried alot. Mom and I have fun and all but when Dad is home I don't have to take naps or anything. We have lots of fun. We had to do a few things to help mom stay ahead of herself so we just ran around alot! It was still fun to just hang out with dad. He is going to San Francisco. Mom really wanted to go but he is going to be gone awhile so I think she has to work or something.
Talk to you soonMy dad got home late Friday night after being snowed in for two days. He and Jason Miller traded from Saturday to Wednesday. Dad wanted to get home sooner and Jason is just getting started calving and really needed to get home. Jason's parents let dad use their car to come the rest of the way from Casper. That saved mom and I from having to go get him. Mom told me he was trying to come home, but also kept telling me she didn't know when because of the weather. I had to do a double take when I was laying on moms lap getting ready for bed. Dad walked in the door and I was so happy that he was home. I just wanted to play and play. By 10:30 mom thought it was time to go to bed. Saturday morning I was up early ready to go. Dad and I spent most of the day outside. It was a little cold but we had a great time together. Mom loves this restaurant in Mitchell so dad and I treated her to that for lunch. I got to ride Gege by myself and then dad and I went for a little longer ride. Sunday mom had to work so dad and I slept in and then worked on the new fence dad wants to put up most of the day. I was lots of help to dad and then mom came home and we both did a little work. So nice to have dad home, but he will only be home for a little bit and then off to California. I will update you more if dad and I get time away from playing!! - Taydon
